Double Digits

I am a few weeks behind posting Mason's weekly pictures. He's had lots of dr. appointments these past couple weeks, but he finally gained some weight so things are starting to calm down. As of June 28th he weighed 11 lb 1 oz! He gained 9 ounces in a week.

I can't believe how fast time is going by! He's already in the double digits!  Both backgrounds for these pictures are actually shirts that belonged to Mason's great grandpa. When Marley was a year old I used one of his shirts and made it into a dress. I had a few others still so I decided with Mason turning 10 weeks old the week before Father's day, and 11 weeks old the week before his great grandpa's birthday I would use the shirts as the background.  So without further ado...

Mason health update!

Three weeks ago Mason weighed 10 pound 5 ounces (his birth weight) His doctor was concerned because he hasn't gained weight (he was 9lb 9 oz when he came home from NICU at one week old).  We had to give him rice cereal in his bottles and go back in a week. When we went back he had actually lost 3 ounces!  His doctor sent us over to the hospital for some blood work and an x-ray of his stomach. We got that all done and stayed at hospital to find out the results. Everything came back normal! This was on a Tuesday so the doctor said she wanted to see him on Thursday and to give him some formula. When we went back Thursday he had gained his 3 ounces back! The doctor was happy with that because she said babies should gain an ounce a day and he gained 1.5 ounces a day.  She said she wanted us to come back in a week which would bring us to last Thursday the 21st.  Mason weighed 10 lb 8 ounces. He gained another 3 ounces, but he should of gained at least 7 ounces =(  He now has to see a stomach doctor and have an upper GI done.  She also noticed he has a small heart murmur. When he was born his PDA in his heart didn't close like it should have, but the NICU Dr. said it wasn't anything to really worry about.  His primary Dr. said she would rather check it out then to just ignore it so he also has to see a cardiologist on July 12th.  We're obviously hoping that everything is normal and he's just a tiny baby. Which would be weird seeing as he weighed so much when he was born, but I would rather have a healthy tiny baby over the alternative. He eats every 3 hours and doesn't spit up so it's not reflux or anything like that. We just need to find out what's going on and quick- I am SO annoyed of hearing people say how tiny he his or oh he's so skinny! He has to go back to dr. on Thursday the 28th so I'll update again after that!

Picnics and Splash Pad

Last Thursday we went up to Lake George to have a picnic and feed the ducks. They were also having their farmer's market (which was more like a craft show). Then on Monday we went up to the splash pad in Valpo.

What is it with kids sitting on the water? At one point every fountain had a kid sitting on it. Is that really fun?!

We got a roof over our heads

Over the past fours years living here our roof has "gone bad." The front side of our house in always in the sun because there are no trees out there. And with our BIG 45 degree angle roof it too is always in the sun. Let's just say it's seen better days.  My dad stopped by to help out and over the course of a few days we got it done, but not without some snags along the way...

Day one started out like this. We took the awning down that was over the door. Once we did that the gutter fell down too. The board behind the gutter was rotten so it was just resting on top of the awning. 

Day one ended with all the shingles being taken off and the tar paper all up.  That's about as far as Mike made it because we got shut down by the city inspector.  See that little rectangle in the window below on the left? Yah, that's a permit that we had to get to continue working. You need one of those so they can make sure that you have ice and water shield on your roof. That black strip along the bottom edge of the roof is the shield stuff.  Once we had the permit Mike was all set to continue working. 

He's a good worker!

All done! Notice anything ugly in the above picture? Those nasty porch lights had to go. For one, the right one was home to a momma bird for a while until she abandoned her eggs. And the one on the left doesn't have it's cover. So off to Menard's we went. We found some white lights we liked, but they were $19 a piece. We then found these for $18 for two.

We decided to go with these since they're half the price of the white ones, and then we bought a can of white spray paint. Mike sprayed them while I supervised.

Once the paint dried for 24 hours we hung them up. (I've been typing we throughout this whole post, but Mike's done all the work until now) 

ALL DONE!  Just need to wait for gutters to go on sale and we'll be all set. 

(Side note- my nice landscaping that I did here is ruined! It's full of shingle pieces and my bushes got smooshed during the demo process of roofing. So, we'll be taking it all out and redoing it eventually)

Remember this from last summer?

 I planted three bushes in front of the house last summer. I didn't really do much with them until now.

I still need to finish the far right side, but there's some big limestone rocks there that I can't pick up/move so that will have to wait for Mike. The mulch, landscape fabric, and timbers only cost about $15 which isn't too bad to make this space look like it does now.  And I am far from a professional because I didn't level the ground underneath or pull any of the weeds under there either. I just figure with time and the weight of the mulch it will fix itself.

Six weeks and smiles

Mason is six weeks old now.  He's been smiling a lot lately. And I actually caught it on camera this week!

Five Weeks

One Month Old!

Last Saturday Mason turned one month old! Today was his doctor appointment.  He weighs 10 lbs 1.5 oz (down from 10lbs 5 oz)  He's 23 inches long (he's grown an inch) and his head is 16 inches around (grown 2 inches!) He's in the 90th percentile for height and head size, and 50th for weight.  His doctor mentioned that he should be back to his birth weight so she gave a prescription for vitamins and he has to go back in two weeks.  When he was in the NICU they checked his hearing and he failed on his left ear so we have to make an appointment to get that double checked sometime soon.  Lately he's been sleeping for 6-7 hours at night which is awesome!  He drinks 3 ounces of breast milk every 3-4 hours. Overall he's a great little guy!

Marley hasn't been to the doctor in a long time, so she also got a check-up.  She's average for height and weight at 39 lbs and 39 3/4 inches tall.  She also had to get FOUR SHOTS!! She was crying as soon as I told her she had to get shots.  She said she never wants to go to the doctor again! Poor thing. She did great but screamed and cried until we left the office.  We stopped for ice cream on the way home because I felt bad for her.  She's still being a great helper and actually wanted to change a diaper the other day!

(In other news I only have 10lbs to lose until I am back down to my pre-pregnancy weight!)

Saturday 5-5-12

This past weekend was a very busy one!

Saturday morning- Marley had her first soccer game of the season. She actually kicked the ball and didn't cry like she did last year when she played.

Right after her game we headed out to South Bend for my niece Maliyah's 7th birthday party.  Can't believe she's 7 already!

Saturday also marked Mason turning one month old. His dr. appt is tomorrow so I'll have an updated post with all that info!

Four Weeks Old

Mason is four weeks old today. He weighs 11 lbs. He's a good baby and last night he slept for almost 7 hours straight! Today he also went to his first yard sale! Of course he slept the whole time though.
