Stitch Fix Review

A few months ago, I signed up for Nadine West and I also signed up for Stitch Fix.  They are basically the same, but in the end I only decided to continue on with one of them.

My big box arrived and inside were my clothes all nicely wrapped up and a letter that explains the whole process. There were also style cards that showed what to pair each item with to create an awesome outfit. 

First thing I tried on was this yellow shirt. I really liked it. Yellow is my favorite color and I have a thing for stripes. However, the price is what was the deciding factor. $58  That's about $40 more than I normally spend on shirts. So I decided to pass. 

Next up was this chevron tank and infinity scarf. I didn't like the scarf at all. It was big and bulky and I just didn't like the feel of it. It was $38. 

The tank was very comfortable and I really liked it. However, at $54 it was also out of my budget. 

I passed on both of these. 

Next up were these boyfriend jeans. Super comfortable and they fit really well.  They were $68. 

I also received this gray asymmetrical cardigan. It's fit was a little weird for me and I really didn't think I would wear it that often to justify spending $58 on it. 

I also passed on both of these items. 

Whatever you don't keep you just stick in the prepaid envelope and return. However, you do have to pay a $20 styling fee before your items are sent to you. If you buy something that $20 is deducted from the amount. If you don't buy anything you lose that $20. I decided that I would return everything so I unfortunately lost my $20 styling fee. I also decided that all of these items were way out of my price range and I couldn't just keep spending $20 each month with the possibility of not getting anything so I decided to not continue with my subscription.  I have a few friends that receive Stitch Fix boxes and really like the items they receive. For now, I'm just sticking with Nadine West.

Busy Bag Swap Ideas

In the past 6-7 months we've participated in two busy bag swaps. If you don't know what busy bags are, they're basically just small learning activities that help kids engage in fine motor skills. The nice thing is they fit into a small bag so they are great for in the car or at a restaurant. 

With the swaps, each mom made multiples of the same bag, then when we met we each took one from each mom and ended up with lots of different bags. We have 25 total now and Mason plays with them all the time. 

Here's what we ended up with after our second swap. 

The next day I went and picked up some pencil pouches at the Dollar Tree to put them in because Mason was tearing the bags. Each pouch has two compartments so there's two activities per pouch. So nice to just grab one as we're walking out the door.

Mason's big boy room

We moved into our house in May of this year, and I don't feel like any room is really complete. Until now. Mason's room is about the only room that has the right furniture and decorations.

He is no longer in his crib and we got him this awesome firetruck bed.  I also picked up some car border on clearance at Menards and a few car canvas prints also on clearance at Hobby Lobby. 

He does need new carpet like all the other bedrooms, but for now his room is complete. 

He does great in his bed and doesn't get out at night time or when he naps. He waits for us to come get him out, which is awesome.  

Next room to finish is Marley's and I have huge plans for her closet / soon to be art space. Can't wait to get started. 

Salt Dough Handprint Ornaments

The other day I came across this salt dough ornament on Pinterest. I decided to do it with the kids this past weekend. All you need is 4 cups flour, 1 cup salt, and water.

Mix the flour and salt and then slowly pour in water until it forms a dough.  Flatten it out on a cookie sheet so it's large enough for your child's hand to fit. Press their hand into the dough and slowly lift it out.

I used a straw to make a hole at the top so we can hang it. After you do that, bake it at 150 degrees for 1 hour (my oven only goes down to 170 degrees so I used that).

Remove from oven and let cool completely. You can then leave it how it is and hang it from the tree with a pretty ribbon, or you can paint it. I painted them so the handprints would show a little better.  On the back I also painted 2014 so we'll always remember when we made then. These are something you could do every year or you could even do footprints.  I'm sure grandparents would love them too.

Craft Space Organization

We've lived in our house for 7 months already and I haven't gotten around to organizing my craft space.  Our living room is long so I have one side for my computer and craft stuff. It was definitely an eye sore. 

The first thing I did was go though my file cabinet and cleared out two drawers for my fabric. I just hung the fabric by color/design over the file folders. I was way too excited about this, and even said "ohh, ahh" when showing it to Mike. 

A few days later this awesome craft table arrived. Merry Christmas to me! I got right to work putting it together and loading it full of my stuff.  

I love that everything is concealed inside and I am totally in love with the drop side table part to increase my work space. 

Now, the question is, what do I sew first?!

Halloween Festivities

Here it is almost Christmas, and I realized I never shared our Halloween activities from this year. 

Mason was Elmo and Marley was a Ninja Turtle.

The Saturday before Halloween we decided to head to Zoo Boo at the Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend. They had booths set up all over the zoo handing out candy and the zoo was decorated. Usually around Halloween time, it's cold at rainy but on this day it was sunny and close to 65 degrees. We couldn't of asked for a more perfect day. 

Both kids crashed out on the way home and kept on sleeping through the night once we got them inside the house. 

The Thursday before Halloween, I took Mason up to the library for trick or treating and story time.  It was cute but there were a ton of kids. 

I didn't take any actual pictures on Halloween night because it was about 30 degrees and raining/snowing and there were crazy winds, so we were only out for about 20 minutes. Since the weather was awful there weren't many kids out and the houses were practically pouring the candy into the kids bags. 

Overall, we had a good time and Marley is already planning out what she will be next year. (another ninja turtle)

Our Elf is back

Well, it's that time of the year again. All the elves have made their way back to their families and ours has shown up right on time. We first met our elf 2 years ago, Mason was just 8 months old so he didn't understand and Marley hated it. She said it was creepy and scared her.  She did name him Jack though, but never really enjoyed it.  Last year, our elf didn't come because we were in the process of moving into our rental and he must of been lost.  This year, Jack didn't come again. A girl elf showed up instead. Mason's older and Marley still wasn't thrilled to have an elf, but we read the book and decided to name her Jingle Bell.  She's been around for almost two weeks and so far so good. Marley seems okay with her. Maybe because Mason likes the elf, Marley decided it's not too bad. Not sure, but glad there's no tears over an elf on the shelf.  Here's what Jingle Bell has been up to so far.

Easy bookcase upgrade

The other day I decided to get rid of Mason's toy box and get him a bookcase instead. He has built in shelves behind his toy with most of his toys on that so his toy box was practically empty besides the books and toys on top.

Before putting the bookcase together completely I decided to give it a little upgrade. I just found some fabric in my stash that went with his room colors. I laid out the cardboard back piece over the fabric. I stretched it tight and used some box tape to attach it when I wrapped it around the cardboard. Then I nailed the cardboard piece to the bookcase.  Quick easy and fun upgrade to a simple $17 bookcase.

Nadine West

I have been trying out different subscription box services over the past month. They've slowly been arriving on my door step and I am loving it. It's like Christmas, but without Santa.

This time I tried out Nadine West. They are a monthly clothing service. When you create your profile on their website you can pick your style of clothes and jewelry and they send you items that fit your style.  Unlike other clothing subscription services, you don't have to pay a styling fee or anything like that. You only pay if you keep an item.

My package arrived in a cute pink envelope.  Inside was my items and a letter welcoming me to Nadine West and explaining the whole process. It had the prices for each item listed, should I decide to keep anything. Also included was a return address label, they pay shipping too!

As soon as I pulled out the shirt I loved it! I may have even said "Oh I love it" out loud to myself.  The jewelry wasn't quite my style since I'm a stay at home mom and don't go out often it was just a little to fancy for me.  

I ran upstairs and put this on over a black cami and then wasn't as happy. I still loved the tank itself, but it was too big for me. I wore it for a while to see if maybe I wouldn't mind it being too big (can you tell I really wanted to keep this)  But in the end I decided to send it back along with the jewelry. 

On the letter, they ask for comments so they can mark them in your profile so they know what you do and don't like. I just wrote that I would of kept the top had it been the right size and the jewelry was too fancy.  I also went back online and redid my style profile and adjusted my size and jewelry style. 

I sadly put everything back in the shiny pink envelope and sealed it up and put it in the mailbox.  I can't wait for next month though!!

Graze

A while ago I received a code for a free snack box from Graze.  They are a snack box that is delivered through the mail. You can get boxes once a week or you can change your frequency to fit your budget.
